I don’t know who needs to hear this, but she doesn’t really mean that, she just doesn’t know how to gently let you know that she doesn’t find you attractive. Get clothes that fit you, wash your ass, style your hair somewhat, and get a cool hobby you can passionately talk about. If you’re fat, do a few pushups every morning and cut back on carbs. But don’t do all this for her though, do this for yourself. It feels good to know that people find you attractive, plus you will have plenty of options throughout your life, and the sooner you get started, the sooner you start reaping those rewards.

Eh. Relationships and friendships are fragile things. Someone can acknowledge that someone else would be a good fit for a romantic relationship and still realize that this particular person is too strong of a support pillar within their friend network to risk losing to a breakup. A friendship is a lower stakes, less fragile, and often still highly supportive relationship than a romantic one. Its not really a scumbag move to avoid risking a friendship to gain a romantic entanglement. If on the other hand your only motivation in the friendship is romantic interest, its probably best to make that known, disengage entirely, and working on finding a new interest. There are too many excellent people out there in the world for any one person to have only exactly one best match
