Last week, three children under the age of 6 were shot in Milwaukee over three days. Milwaukee police said Wednesday so far in 2023, 103 people under the age of 18 have been shot.

I know people don’t like hearing about all the shootings in this city. There shouldn’t BE this many shootings, especially of 9 year old children.

Are there any charitable funds for victims which are stepping in for the family? Shootings are big news, but just hearing about them and doing nothing seems… exploitative.

I’m meeting tonight with people in the area to discuss what more can be done. Already, we try to give funds to people in the community for safety and security upgrades to their property (example: Ring doorbells, extra lighting, fences, etc.) We’ve discussed adding Flock cameras to the area. I meet with the police on an almost monthly basis. I’ve met with the mayor once.

I’m trying to be involved in the community. But I can’t take guns out of people’s hands.

I just think people in Milwaukee need to be aware of what’s going on and not turn a blind eye to the problem.

Nobody’s “turning a blind eye” just because someone doesn’t want to see every single shooting article posted here; we all know Milwaukee has a lot of shootings. You’re just overrepresenting the problem in the community by flooding it with these crap articles that range from passively blaming the victims to actively embarrassing them and their families, and feeding the journalistic demand that keeps making them. They don’t help inform anyone, they just monetize the problem itself.

There’s nothing about monetizing the problem. It’s about bringing the problem into the open so people can see that it’s NOT just a “shooting here and there”. This is literally happening EVERY WEEK.

You shouldn’t be offended that there’s so many articles about shootings, you should be offended by the fact that there’s so many shootings in Milwaukee.
