…Who exactly is asking for this? AI chatbots are cool and all, but I have no idea why you’d want them in your messages app. What would you even need that for?
Google is asking for it so it can use the charbot to create targeted advertising that they can sell to corporations at a higher rate than their current rates.
Could be handy additional LLM training data for them too, I guess
Their ads can be advanced all theywant, I’m already past the saturation point and won’t look them anyway.
But Bard will also analyze the private content of messages “to understand the context of your conversations, your tone, and your interests.” It will analyze the sentiment of your messages, “to tailor its responses to your mood and vibe.” And it will “analyze your message history with different contacts to understand your relationship dynamics… to personalize responses based on who you’re talking to.”
Reading between the lines: they want to use your private messages to train their AI.
Isn’t Messages just for SMS? At least I use it only for those.
I hope Google will provide a simple toggle for users to opt out or turn off this feature when it rolls out.
Opt in would be the only proper option
