That was incredibly stupid.
He gave a full confession regarding raping a 1 year old and is being actively investigated for other stuff, but because of the felony sex offender registering, his attorney was basically “don’t ruin his life! He needs to hold a job!” So now it goes to trial.
I hope this ends very very poorly for him.
“He gave a full confession to this incident,” prosecutors said in Sandoval County District Court Thursday. “The extent of the defendant’s sex addiction came to light during this investigation. And again, the defendant admitted to being a compulsive sex addict within at least the last 15 years.”
“We’re asking the court to not felonize Mr. Newman for the rest of his life,” his attorney argued for not forcing him to have a felony conviction. “He is 30 years old. He’s going to work for the next 40 to 45 years. So we’re asking the court to not impose that felony.”
He stalked women and raped an infant and his lawyer asked that he not be made a felon because he’ll be working for decades and we sure want him to pass background checks and be able to work near the most vulnerable among us. Glad this judge is forcing a trial so this guy can get the legal treatment he deserves.
