China is making rapid improvements in high speed rail. It would be nice if we could get that kind of motivation in other countries.

I liked Sublime enough to pay for it. It has become my primary text editor at home.

I also like Atom/Pulsar, but it takes a but too long to open for my use case.

Obsidian isn’t exactly a text editor, but it fits many of the use cases. It may be closed source, but all the files are accessible and usable if the app ever disappears.

I want to use vim more, but I’m lazy, and the learning curve keeps putting me off. I might get there eventually.

Nano is ol’ reliable. When everything else failed, Nano was still there for me and worked perfectly.

AI is absolutely not needed for this, and is only a liability.

They could say “press 1 if you are calling about X” or even “if you are calling about X, we are already aware of it. If not, you will be transferred to an operator in a moment”.

An automated system like this is easy to implement, easy to audit, and will fail in expected and managable ways.
AI is nondeterministic, and will fail randomly in very unexpected ways.

The factories may use fossil fuels, but I do not.

The fossil fuel companies are responsible for their own actions, as are the companies and people who still choose to use fossil fuels.

The people who have made an active choice to avoid fossil fuels (or the people without a choice) are not at fault. Blaming them instead of the people who can make a difference helps no-one.

98% of hydrogen is currently made from fossil fuels.

While it’s possible to make hydrogen from renewable electricity, you immediately lose at least 60% of your energy in the electricity to chemical to electricity conversion steps. For comparison, batteries only lose 5-10% in the round trip charging.

Hydrogen really only makes sense in applications where batteries can’t be used, or efficiency is not relevant. So many companies have publicly announced their new hydrogen vehicles, then quietly stopped using them and started using battery electric vehicles instead.

Hydrogen just costs too much, and the hard limit of chemical efficiency means it will never be cheaper than batteries.

Ritalin long acting.

The default (short acting) Ritalin worked, but it was like a rollercoaster. When it worked, it was amazing. As it started to wear off a few hours later, I couldn’t even get out of bed.
I was on the minimum dose. I tried cutting the pills in half and taking the second half later in the day, but that just gave me 2 cycles per day instead of 1.

The long acting is much milder, but the wearing off effect is also milder. I’m only 1 up from the minimum dose and I’m quite happy with it. I just can’t schedule anything important between 4pm and 8pm.
