  • I’ve gone back and forth on this, but ultimately, I enjoy the tagging process and accept it as part of my workflow.

When i’m adding a release to my collection, I throw it into a temo directory, open the album folder in MP3Tag, query MusicBrainz (or Discogs if necessary) for the basics, replace the cover image if I’m not happy with the one from the source, add additional genre tags and do cleanup, auto renumber tracks/discs. Once it all looks good, I use the tags-to-filename feature to rename everything to AlbumArtist/[OriginalYear] Album/### - Title (### - Artist - Title for multi artist releases) then copy it to my library.

It sounds like a lot, but it isn’t bad. Like I said, I enjoy it.

Updating tags shouldn’t change the actual music though. That seems really strange and like something else is going on.

  • I appreciate your post!

I grew up in 1980s New England. I’m plenty familiar with the word and of course I used it growing up. I had an aunt with Down syndrome, one cousin with cerebral palsy, another with Rett syndrome. All awesome humans. Once I was an adult, it was just like…why the fuck would I use that word? These are people I love dearly.

Sure, maybe if we’re ranking insensitive slurs, it isn’t top of the list. I guess? And it’s an easy one to hold on to because it’s a group that isn’t generally in a position to speak up for themselves. It doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try to do better.

  • Maybe. The same way I’ll sometimes read a YA book or watch a kids movie. Being aimed at children doesn’t make something inherently bad or unenjoyable. What you enjoy and how you relate to a piece of media can be influenced by any number of things. What you’re going through at work or in your personal life, what you’ve played recently, or watched or read. Maybe it won’t ever click for me, but I don’t mind taking an hour or two every few years to revisit something millions of people love to see if it will.

In the last couple of years, I’ve enjoyed the GBC Harry Potter games and Wendy Every Witch Way. If I just dismissed things as kid games, I wouldn’t have touched those. And Wendy has actually become a really fun and calming one I go back to often.

So I guess maybe you do you and I’ll do me and that’s okay?

  • Just finished setting it up and giving it a little go. I need to get used to the shortcuts.

But really liking it so far. I limited myself to 5 games each for GB and GBC, and 6 for GBA. Using the cart studio was fun and easy and takes it from “Oh, neat” to “Damn, that’s nice.” I hadn’t even heard of BaseOS before this. I couldn’t believe how fast it boots.

I do wish there were single SD instructions because 2 cards seems like overkill.

My only REAL issue so far though is my translated copy of Cave Noire just reboots whenever I press Start on the title screen. I’ll probably try an untranslated version later.
