  • My therapists helped me put my life back together after over a decade of spinning my wheels and struggling with PTSD. Sorry about your sister, and it’s not like I haven’t also seen shitty therapists, but that’s definitely not everyone and I think it’s a bad idea to discourage anyone from reaching out for help. People should leave therapists they don’t click with even if they’re not bad per se, because if you don’t like them or they don’t respect you then nothing productive is going to happen.

  • ~50% of people are capable of using it while standing, that doesn’t mean all want to. I’ve heard a fair number of men rag on men who won’t sit on their own toilet and splash piss everywhere, since it just makes a mess you have to clean up. So the math is actually tipped more in favor of sitters, who make up a non-zero proportion of people who are able to pee while standing, plus everyone who’s obligated to pee while sitting.

I think it’s weird to care about lifting the lid, but leaving it up shows you left it open while it flushed and that’s kinda gross to a lot of people.

  • The stereotype isn’t that all UPS guys are gay, it just came from a time when there weren’t a lot of legal protections in the US for gay employees and UPS had a good nondiscrimination policy for the time. So a lot of queer people ended up working for UPS for a while in, I want to say the 90s and 00s? Just basing this off personal memory. Same reason there’s the stereotype of the gay flight attendant, Delta was another company that had a good nondiscrimination policy back in the day.

  • My husband forgets food if it doesn’t beep (ADHD). I am hypersensitive to the loud screeching the microwave makes to announce food is done (autistic). We compromise by leaving the beep on and he either gets it before it starts another round or I flee to safety (or get it myself if I’m near it, but I’m usually not).

  • I got curious and tried to look up all the different religious emojis. After Judaism (with 14.8 million Jewish people per Wikipedia), from what I can tell the next smallest religion with an emoji is Sikhism, with the khanda: 🪯 Wikipedia says there are 25-30 million Sikhs, so I guess somewhere between ~15 and 25 million? Big hurdle for an upstart religion to overcome.

Although that doesn’t seem to have helped the Mormons, who have ~17 million followers. But I also don’t know of any special symbols they have outside ones shared by other Christians (like crosses).

  • One of my siblings actually got repeatedly in trouble because my parents weren’t dropping her off early. This was in elementary school. Some of the buses didn’t even get there by the time she wanted them there (10 minutes before the morning bell rang). The school ‘solved’ the situation by moving my sister to a different class. Which I guess did solve it for my sister, but I still have no idea how the school decided that was a normal thing to tell children 10 and under to do??
