People are addicted to it and see the aspartame water with no sugar and no calories and feel they can drink as much as they want guilt free.

Technology@lemmy.world•Meta's $10 billion Louisiana data center is getting $3.3 billion in tax breaks—more than seven years of the state's entire police budgetEnglish
3·4 hours agoWhy? Is it creating construction jobs? Doubt the entire salaries of everyone building it will total anywhere near that amount.
Jobs after? What, like a dozen security guards and a couple IT people? Those things practically run themselves from what I understand.
Just pay that money directly to the construction workers and scrap the data centre.
True, I did forget that it might have been useful for me in one very specific instance where there was a comments section in one of our excel forms and I wanted to summarize the most common words mentioned in those comments. Couldn’t figure out how at the time but this could potentially have figured it out. Not sure I would trust the accuracy of it’s result though

Technology@lemmy.world•‘A’ Grades Are Suddenly Everywhere Since the Arrival of ChatGPTEnglish
1·11 hours agoI wonder if it would be suitable to adjust people’s grades each year on their final exam.
For example instead of having assignments worth 25%, attendance 10%, quizzes 20%, midterm 20%, and final 25%
Have it as assignments 75% and attendance as 25%
Then adjust all of that for by midterm and finals
Get 100% on your assignments due to chatgpt and show up to class every time despite not paying attention, if you get 50% on your quizzes, midterm, and final you get 50% overall, not 67.5%
… You aren’t supposed to use it for math… In excel? What is the point?
How is this easier than just typing in sum(a1:a3)??
Unfortunately the rich can move to different countries much easier than the poor.
They would just move to Europe or Canada or something rather than give away half their wealth.

politics @lemmy.world•Republicans vote to dilute gas as prices rise above $4.50
5·2 days agoIf only AI data centres had to pay $5 a gallon for gasoline to power their equipment and we could use free clean water to power our vehicles.

politics @lemmy.world•GOP Rep Humiliates Boy, 10, for Writing Letter About Electric Cars
31·2 days agoRepublicans are like the person who spends too much money on Cheap Chinese crap that they don’t need because it feels like they are getting a bunch of material stuff but it never lasts and they need to constantly buy more to replace it.
Democrats seem more like the people who spend a bunch of money on fewer but quality goods that you can rely on and don’t need to replace as often, because it also improves the quality of your experience and reliability in the future.
Both end up spending the same in the long run but one has a more reliable and higher quality household.

Crazy Fucking Videos@lemmy.world•A schoolbus, stopping in front of a residential home, is rear ended by a full size truckEnglish
3·4 days agoYes, technically he was following too closely to account for the fact he was looking at his phone.
If you are looking at your phone you should probably be leaving much more space between you and the vehicle in front due to the fact that your reaction time will be significantly delayed. So technically too close. If he wasn’t on the phone it would have been proper following distance.

Technology@lemmy.world•A data center used 29 million gallons of water without a bill, while residents complained about low water pressureEnglish
32·5 days agoWell, yes it wouldn’t heat it a “little bit” at the source but once added back into the system the average increase would probably be a “little bit”.

Technology@lemmy.world•A data center used 29 million gallons of water without a bill, while residents complained about low water pressureEnglish
71·5 days agoI just bought a house which has a pump and water line for garden hoses and irrigation
I have no idea where the water is coming from
The house has a well, but the irrigation system is completely separate and has a pipe running somewhere that I have no idea about.

Technology@lemmy.world•A data center used 29 million gallons of water without a bill, while residents complained about low water pressureEnglish
52·5 days agoHonestly question though …
Does a data centre actually pollute or dirty the water when used to cool it’s stuff?
Could it not just take the water, run it through the system, heat the water a little bit to cool the stuff it needs, then run the water back into the city lines which might even save people a few cents on the water heating bills?

I agree, even if Biden was 20 years younger I think he would have won. If he was 20 years younger and female and Indian he would have lost just as Harris did.
It was definitely policy that hindered them, but also the sexism and racism.

That seems like a giant waste of battery/fuel.
