World News@lemmy.ml•Newly appointed pro-Israel World Food Program executive director instantly cuts aid to Gaza.
13·6 days agoI just cannot wrap my minds around how anybody can believe that Israel are the good guys.
I mean I understand these people are nuts, but they must have some way of rationalizing their worldview to themselves. And I just can’t see how.

1·7 days agoI can’t remove it because there is no delete image option (in my client at least; I am using Voyager), only a replace image. I suppose I could replace it with a single pixel image but I think at this point it doesn’t matter.

2·7 days agoI am actually very interested in the news feed thing. How do you find duplicates in the news feeds? Wouldn’t you have to pull the actual articles and then have MB of data to shift through which would exceed the window? Do you use a vector DB? Do you just have it use curl or do you pay for an Internet API service?

3·8 days agoI’m not advertising any service. I added an image because Lemmy wouldn’t let me post the question without one. I think I may have chosen the wrong post type or something. Sorry for the confusion.

153·8 days agoAnd move SSH to a non-default port. Without that, my public-facing servers get thousands of SSH attacks a day, and it basically goes to zero after moving it to a random-looking high port.
Also, totally agree with using public key login and disable password login.

31·14 days agoElSeyed clearly won IMO. It’s telling that the biggest attack against him was “he may be a terrorist” and “his PhD MD doesn’t officially allow him to practice medicine”
First, I don’t think people are falling for the “every Muslim is a terrorist” accusation any more. And second, he’s not running to be a doctor, he’s running for Senate.

Congratulations on being able to run an completely ethical business - it can’t be easy. I say that non-sarcastically.
I think one of the many issue which has lead to the state we are in now is that it’s often impossible to tell the true quality or value of a product before buying it. So simply buying something more expensive is no guarantee of a better product, because the optimal strategy for an unethical business is to sell the cheapest possible product at the highest possible volume x price.

Global News@lemmy.zip•Russian data centre hit by drone in first for Ukraine warEnglish
21·15 days agoThis is interesting to me from a consequence perspective. I think hitting datacenters is going to be the next big thing. I just posted the following in another thread:
Louisiana’s new META datacenter is estimated to cost $140-$250 billion dollars once fully deployed (~$100B for the AI accelerators alone) [1]. Imagine being able to destroy $140B-$250B with a missile strike! There would be ripples through the whole world economy.
[1] Sample price info source where cost can be extrapolated: https://epoch.ai/data/ai-data-centers/directory/meta-hyperion Scaling its $61.8 billion projection from 1.63 GW to the full 5 GW produces approximately $189 billion.

You would think this would change the relationship, but you see it happening over and over again with no noticeable response.

Not sure, but there was apparently $1 billion in a secret Israeli bank:
“Cole also learned of another account, which unlike Alpha may not have been known to the Dutch. MBZ allegedly transferred about $1 billion to a separate Israeli Central Bank account, Beta, that one source characterized as an allocation “for Kushner’s personal benefit.” Here emerges one of the most bizarre details: According to Cole, Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu recommended Kushner use the Israeli Central Bank in the first place. This situation ended up with Kushner being required to notify Netanyahu before using the Beta account for any transfers or transactions.”
