Reddit@lemmy.world•Reddit shows non-dismissable login page - did they just go login-only?
12·2 days agoWas the final nail in the coffin for me. Blocked Reddit via DNS house-wide so there’s no chance I accidentally visit them again… Can be annoying since so many answers are there, but as others have said extensions + wayback machine solve that. The block had reduced my frustration level considerably though, I have no regrets.
Restoring a local Signal backup doesn’t let you use the same profile on multiple accounts, it forces older profiles to deregister. Try it.
I removed it a year ago for this same reason. Love the extension, hate the seemingly unjustifiable CPU usage.

Philadelphia@lemmy.world•Is it okay to "hold" a parking spot by standing in it for a few minutes?
2·3 days agoThe meth head part is perfect. No one wants to park in a spot a tweeker is ‘working’. If you are trying to save a spot, just act that out if you feel guilty.
Pedestrians have the right-of-way at any rate vs a car.
Signal allows just 1 device at a time, and you need to register by phone number. Unless you use their tablet mode which stores data on server… Maybe check out other projects without such requirement?
Even with rooting (to the dismay of GrapheneOS PR team, so sad), Signal will not backup or restore properly since it uses Strongbox, so you cannot clone it amongst profiles or users. Thank the Titan chip for that. Legit a good thing, except it your case.
Just don’t use Signal.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a good non-cash compensation/show of appreciation to a neighbor for cat-sitting?
12·8 days agoIf he’s the type of guy that doesn’t expect repayment and did it out of the kindness in his heart, you can reciprocate by doing the same. Let him know you owe him one, and make sure sure it’s received that you’re serious and not just something “you say”.
When your time comes to do something for him, do you expect payment? Or for him to grovel?

Out of ultra-long-range missiles? Baby you know better than to speak of such things!
Why not collect them both?

4·12 days agoWhat a neat concept. I love to see innovation like this. Sure, it is markably worse throughput than basically anything else, but it’s something completely new.
The only situation I can see this being useful in is if wireless RF is being monitored, or a mass gathering where uni/multi-cast is simply infeasible.
As it is now, at least. Would love to see it developed further. I have serious concerns at how well it’d function in low light.

KOSA and other Bad Internet Bills (US-specific for now)@lemmy.sdf.org•The CHATBOT Act Forces One Parenting Model On Every Family
1·12 days agoBy no means was I abdicating for inaction. People should absolutely be upset by this and speak out, and vote against those that oppress us.
Locking us out of everything is a bit of a stretch. Even if it comes to that point, its not like illegal content is hard to get (see: torrenting, usenet, MEGA, countless others).
For the average user, sure I guess a “fair” chatbot would be hard to come by (or rather too much work). Isn’t it already, though, was kinda my point.

Oh yeah, absolutely. Decisions would be fairly weighed from management vs a machine doing it. /s
Union workers need to not be so lazy and actually, you know, unionize (meet in-person) nowadays. Attend your monthly meetings! They’re in your favor after all…
