Since the fighting is (currently) done by men somewhere in the 18-55 range, it’s actually much more than 2% of the relevant population.

If I had to guess, this is probably more about the oil industry than online retail. Rosneft’s CEO Igor Sechin is a close associate of Putin’s and has previously suggested putting refineries under their control. The warehouse attacks are expensive and disruptive, but they’re nothing compared to the fuel crisis.

They won’t let guys escape this time - expect stuff like closed borders and an internet lockdown so people can’t spread information or coordinate. They signed a law recently allowing them to seize assets and cut off government services for Russians abroad convicted in absentia for a variety of offenses, so anyone who does leave will probably lose anything they can’t take with them; I’m sure any family members left behind will somehow be guilty of something.

But, yeah - worsening their existing demographic and economic problems is real fuckin’ dumb.

I’ve already seen several reports of cannibalism among Russian frontline troops, so possibly just more of the same with fresher meat.
