I don’t know how any of this works so this is going to sound stupid and it probably is, but anecdotally the shrubs and trees in my garden just simply failed to grow this year. They put out the leaves from the over winter buds and then just sat there doing nothing until early September a half-hearted start at some new growth before it got cold again. Very slow year all around in spite of the weather not seeming super different. Probably not the same thing, but in my mind this demonstrates how a nice green landscape might look ok but just not be doing it’s job for inscrutable reasons.

I like and fear your answer, but having recently watched a ridiculous number of police homicide interrogations, it seems to me that if you are smart enough to get away with murder you are probably smart enough to avoid it in the first place. A lot of murders are solved with cameras and phone records. Even many sociopaths who you might expect to do better.

I feel like with so many cameras they will still find you and it will be more suspicious, but I guess it depends if they can tie you to the victim in some other way.

I’m something of a rewilder myself, and I have to say, even in the PNW, establishing native plants takes a lot of water the first few summers at least. Maybe not as much as a lush green lawn all summer, but that’s not the standard in my neighborhood anyway.

Plant in Fall and start from the shady areas, creating more shady areas as you go. Mulch with leaves if possible, or chip drop if not. Still a lot more fun than mowing.
