  • I mean, that happens. Bomb makers die when they screw up. The guys that make fireworks sometimes do, and they work under very strict guidelines.

But, even with the kind of home brew, low speed stuff that you can do in your garage, it’s still very dangerous. Shit, you fuck up making some stuff, and even if it doesn’t explode, you can end up in the hospital.

Even dumb shit like dry ice bombs can mess you up bad.

And it isn’t like experience is a guarantee of safety because experience can lead to complacency. And that’s when people really fuck up.

The kind of people that are making bombs as insurgents though, they tend to have a “recipe” of sorts, a way of building their preferred device. That methodology tends to be highly reproducible. They’ll have their supplies, and tools all set up to minimize fuckery. The same thing, built the same way every time, you tend to have less chance of making simple mistakes.

It’s hard to describe how to maximize safety without describing how to build a device, and fuck that noise. But the key is to be precise, and follow the same steps every time.

Now, the pros, like the dudes doing demolition, or mining, they’re usually dealing with stable supplies. They don’t really make bombs in the way I think you mean, though it’s effectively the same methodology to prevent error. You have a plan, you stick to it, and you don’t deviate from safety standards.

If you go digging through old newspapers and such, there’s all kinds of idiots getting hurt trying to blow shit up in their back yard (sometimes literally in their back yard, not even somewhere away from other people). We had an idiot that tried to mix up some gunpowder and metal shavings to make his own fireworks this summer. Took off his hand, and last I heard was still needing surgeries from where he fucked up his face. No idea what he was doing exactly, but it’s an example of idiots idioting and bad things ensuing.

  • Whether or not the food is shitty depends on the cheese used, no matter how shitty it looks.

If that’s proper american cheese, it would be just cheese and something like sodium citrate, perhaps with some annatto for coloring.

If it’s “cheese food” or “american slices”, that’s going to be shitty food.

All mac n cheese sauce is, is cheese with an emulsifer and some extra dairy. Well, technically it’s fats with an emulsifier that then has dairy added, then cheese melted into it. But that’s nitpicking

When it comes right down to it, if you mix some shredded processed cheese into your mac n cheese sauce, you’ll end up with compliments. You might even win prizes at local group competitions and such. You just have to check what you’re using, read the label and make sure you’re getting what you think you’re getting.

A bechamel, the foundation of traditional mac n cheese (as opposed to box versions), serves the same role as sodium citrate, just with a different texture and some shift to the flavor profile compared to just melting cheese over pasta.

I ain’t mad at some good process (or, rather, secondary processed) cheese slices on top. It should be better applied than that, but it has the benefit of keeping the sauce underneath from drying out, as well as being very easy to just mix in as you scoop with no appreciable change in the taste of a serving. Yeah, bread crumbs or some shredded young colby would be better, but this is a matter of execution being so poor as to draw attention.

  • I really like the smell of goat cheese lol. It’s a strong smell for sure, and it does have that grassy, musky funk to it.

Then again, I enjoy the smell of goats (though not goat poo). Again, it’s a potent smell, funky and animal.

But roaches smelled bad to my nose in a way that other bugs don’t. Back in the day, I kept aquariums, fished a lot, and ended up taking in some strange pets. So I was farming earthworms, crickets, meal worms, and brine shrimp. All of them have a distinct smell. But I could be out on the porch where the bugs were, and it was pleasant enough. Not so with the roaches. I was thinking about farming them for other people’s pets, but just couldn’t handle the odor (or the idea of them getting loose tbh).

I guess it’s one of those things where we’re all wired a tiny bit existent different when it comes to good/bad perceptions

  • Eh, I am an asshole.

Friends are hard to make. It’s even harder to find good friends. The key is to move through life open to the possibilities as they come.

Given enough time, and the willingness to be a friend, regardless of whether or not it works out at any given time, you’ll find people. Might take years, might get lucky at any time.

No bullshit, the real secret to having friends is being one. You’ll meet people at work, at stores, at events, wherever. If you comport yourself as the kind of person you would like to have as a friend, it is inevitable that you’ll meet someone that wants that kind of friend too. From there, you do your best, and let them do their best, and see where it goes.

It can be harder the more unusual you’re desired friend traits are. But that’s not the point.

It’s okay to “fake it til you make it”, btw. If you want a friend that’s compassionate, but you’re more of a stiff individual that isn’t moved by others, you might need to learn compassion by faking it. But as long as you’re acting with compassion, you’ll eventually either learn it for real, or become so good at mimicking compassion that it becomes the same thing. And that’s true for almost any trait. Hard to fake raw intelligence, or being tall, but stuff that’s behavioral? Absolutely possible to pick it up as you go along.

Be the kind of person you want in your life

  • Hey, you’re new to lemmy.

    Some advice.

It’s one thing to point out bad acts, it’s another to make recommendations. You’re here saying to use .ml, and if that’s your opinion, that’s fine. But you’ve missed a lot if you’re making that recommendation based on mods/admins stances on trans issues and rights.

You simply haven’t had this account long enough to be making recommendations at all tbh, but you really gotta do your research before doing so. Lemmy.ml, for all the good it has, is also run by some people that have a track record om trans rights that’s dubious to some degree or another. Even if the fediverse C/ is moderated by someone that isn’t dubious, it’s still a strange recommendation to be making here.

You do you, but you’re likely to end up mixed in drama if you keep diving in head first without due diligence.
