Runecairn is a hack of Cairn a rules, light, dungeons, and dragons variant.

It is designed for one game master called the Warden and one player.

That is because the game is designed to emulate souls likes, and Norse mythology.

Your player has a lot of combat options and it’s an awesome bad ass, but expect to die often.

Resurrection is a mechanic. You will learn by being killed by cheap monsters, and then you will know what not to do.

You do not have infinite lives, and until you can be fully restored, your stats, go down.

If you die too many times, it’s for real. Your story is over.

I have! Its quite Fun. I actually really like the pitch black humor like how everyone is a mutant, and knows it ( that they are nothing. Everyone else’s ) including all members of the mutant hating society. Also, the fact that the hated communism had to be invented from old movies and propaganda film because this whole thing had nothing to do with the cold war is it all started because of an accident in the far future.

Thank you so much for mentioning this game. It is a classic.

I have I think two different versions in several of the classic adventures in an omnibus.

I found a very old and battered copy on my FLGS and had to have it. I think it’s the second edition. The rule system is rather byzantine, but it was such a fun read! I haven’t ever been able to play it, though.
