That title reads like “x now let’s premium subscribers verify their real IDs”

Wouldn’t most people assume their ID is real? Or at least take it to their relevant government institution if they have doubts?

I think it’s more that the average “verified” Blue subscriber just paid money and provided contact info, without actually providing ID at all. Now they’ll also verify an actual ID, and put some additional identifier next to your check to make you “more trustworthy.”

In other words, more Elon nonsense.

edit: in some cases, people just buy already verified accounts from a third party service. It’s a total joke from a verification standpoint.

I see. Thank you! That makes a lot more sense. They make it sound like an “opt-in” feature as opposed to a new (old) requirement

yeah, they have no idea what they’re doing, just trying to scrape in $ however they can with Elon’s latest deep thoughts, from a base of inherently suspicious people.

I’m sure they just mean you can use your actual government issued identification card to verify your identity, but the US has a form of identification called REAL ID that we are slowly being required to be compliant with.
