Hi all,

I’m seeing a lot of hate for capitalism here, and I’m wondering why that is and what the rationale behind it is. I’m pretty pro-capitalism myself, so I want to see the logic on the other side of the fence.

If this isn’t the right forum for a political/economic discussion-- I’m happy to take this somewhere else.

Cheers!

Capitalism has been working so far because the economy has been growing, so even if you are poor right now and someone is filthy rich, you are still guaranteed to be better off in the not-so-distant future. However, the world’s growth is slowly stagnating, and already has stagnated or even reversed in many developed nations. That spells doom for anyone who was not able to climb out of the economic pit. Living in a stagnant world ruled over by a handful of oligarchs for the rest of eternity, or until the next economic boom (unlikely) is not a pretty prospect.

In the Netherlands it’s reversing quite rapidly unfortunately. It was listed as one of the most pleasant countries to live in but I don’t believe that’s still the case.

Healthcare has waiting lists of several months if not years and the aid you get is quite crappy these days. Healthcare workers have an extremely high burnout rate and their compensation simply sucks. They are constantly guilt tripped into working unpaid overtime so people quit that field in droves. Doctors here do nothing but provide weak painkillers and will only help you if you’re close to dying. It’s sad, they get educated well but they’re overloaded with patients so that they have no time to diagnose.

Housing prices are ridiculous in denser areas. Completely unaffordable on single income and dual income nets you a crappy 1930s house that requires thousands of euros on maintenance costs. The government is actively blocking new housing projects with overly complicated bureaucracy. And that’s only getting worse.

Inflation is among the worst in Europe. Our government doesn’t care so long as it doesnt affect big corporations. Our government is a bunch of corporate puppets. They’re only there for personal gain and will do anything to please the corporate lords.

Pensions are a joke for millenials. By the time it’s our turn the climate change will completely buttfuck us. Never mind that it will probably be useless by then due to inflation.

It used to be nice. Capitalism is killing it quite quickly.
