Hey all, I have been having problems getting offsite images to load via the image markup in comments. I see other Fediverse instances allow users to upload images directly, is that a feature that is active on KBin.Earth? If so how do I use it? I’m mainly using Interstellar as my client.

Thanks!

Yes, you can upload images here. You can do so in both posts and comments using the Mbin web UI, or in posts using Interstellar. ATM, Interstellar does not have a way to upload images to comments.

Just a note, Imgur serves images in a weird way which causes Mbin (and possibly other fedievese servers) to not load the image correctly, so I would recommend using a different service or downloading & uploading here.

ok, thanks, I tried to use a direct link from reddit, then imgur, guess I just struck out on service selection. I’ve never used Catbox, but seems like that’s the prefered

I can only answer for the Mbin web UI: there you can add one image to a thread or comment via the button with the “image and video” icon.

What are the problems of image markup you have?

The issue is that you use the link of the Imgur page as the image link. But you need to use the url of the image itself: https://i.imgur.com/UQcNyYn.jpeg

        this should work

Edit: seems to not work, but this might be because of Imgurs restrictions. Lets see if Catbox works (https://files.catbox.moe/ekr3ve.jpeg):
        catbox

interesting, yeah, seems like it is an imagr / mbin compatability issue. I’ll try isn’t catbox next time, I have never used it but it a ems the preferred service, any specific reason?

I don’t really know why catbox is so popular here. But I saw others using it, tried it and saw that it is easy to use and reliable (except when some governments block it). So I think it has some kind of bias-effect (people hear about it, it works, they talk about it and so on).

makes sense, and it is donation based run by an indie dev seems like, so fits in the ethos
