I enjoyed 2 over 1, as well. I liked how they made you balance between the three characters. You had to prioritize getting better equipment for the weakest person so they could help during fights.
But yeah, 3 is gonna knock your socks off if you’ve enjoyed 1 & 2. I want to go back and play the new remasters, but I know I’ve been spoiled by 3 so I probably wouldn’t enjoy replaying the first two lol
It’s funny because I wasn’t that into 1, like I didn’t really dislike it and found it charming, but I didn’t actually have that much fun. But I watched someone stream DQ1 HD, and I kept getting annoyed by the changes lol. It’s too different, it’s like a completely different game now and the changes they made didn’t seem that great to me. I guess there’s nothing wrong with it being completely different, but it wasn’t what I was expecting at all. Maybe if I played it myself I would enjoy it more but watching it I was just like “what is this…”
