I’m an idiot but is it really accurate to call these paintings Impressionism and not surrealism? Can stuff be two things? Whatever you call it, I adore these!
Surrealism is about elements out of place, of the surreal, impressionism is about impressions; non-literal broad strokes vibesy feels, impressions of a thing rather than the strictly literal lines of it. I’d say these are just really really impressionist, and not particularly surrealist. Not that a thing can’t be extremely both.
I’m imagining Dr. Manhattan in that first one.
