Little did anyone know at the time that this sketch would end up having a negative impact on a politician’s upcoming campaign. A year after the episode first aired, a Mississippi city council candidate named Rick James noticed that his campaign signs were being stolen and defaced with a specific catchphrase. People would also yell that exact phrase at him when he was dropping his daughter off at school. James hadn’t seen the show before and was confused about what prompted all this until a friend told him about the sketch later on
I saw Lil Jon walk out of a nondescript door in Santa Monica right as a van full of dudes started laughing their asses off and yelling Chappelle Show phrases at the poor guy. It was hilarious AF but also probably awful for him. This was already close to a decade after the show aired.
If a joke is funny once, it’s funny a thousand times I guess.
For the folks enjoying it, yes, absolutely. I really thought it was one of the most perfectly funny things I’ve ever seen in LA. The remorse only set in after.
If there’s gonna be a trainwreck at least you got to see it.
