Happy to see the first comment on that article points out that this is just the Namco Jogcon again. It sucked then, it’ll suck again now.
If you must play racing games (especially of the more sim variety) with a pad, I always preferred pushing the left stick all the way forward and rotating it along the edge to steer. I find it much easier to dial in an angle that way.

I wonder if an updated version of the Namco NeGcon from about the same time would be a better approach?
