This is still a work in progress, and I would love for other people to contribute to grow this project.
I think given some more attention, this could turn into a valuable asset for language learning of many different languages (could easily be modified for Japanese) - as I personally find it slightly more entertaining than standard flashcards. And if you are anything like me, learning something is more about staying interested and motivated than it is anything else.

While it isn’t anything super special, I do think it is more effective (at least for me) than simply using Anki flashcards, as it keeps me slightly more entertained and interested - but I think the project could definitely be gamified a bit more. The primary goal of this project is to eventually create something that actually keeps the user interested in drilling through vocabulary.
Disclaimer: The project is mostly just a couple files, and was put together with AI, not using any type of framework or anything. If the project gets future collaborators, we would likely need to refactor the project to be more workable.

This looks interesting. One thing you could consider is colour coding the hanzi and pinyin, by tones, since the diacritics can be hard to see on a small phone screen. For example, the Pleco dictionary app uses red, green, blue, purple for tones 1,2,3,4. This also adds an additional cue for memorisation. A adjustable background colour for the word might also help readability.
Thanks for the cross-post, and pinging me :D

Ah, yeah - this is a good Idea - I’ll try to work on getting that implemented! Thanks for the feedback :)
[EDIT] Implements - Color coded to match Pleco color schemes for hanzi/pinyin.
Nice!
Don’t know if you’ll get pinged for my edit on my other comment - The change is now applied (color coded hanzi to tone) Thanks for the suggestion!
This rocks you could gameify it as a full blown idle-ish rpg but not-idle. If it were me I’d basically just copy Minute Quest but with doing cards for character movement forwards. That’s a very simple mobile rpg where you just walk right but it’s really compelling. Minute Knights is the sequel.
Oh, I haven’t heard of it - but I’ll look into it and that sounds like it might be a nice option moving forward with the project! Hopefully I’ll eventually find some more experienced developers to help out with the project and beef it up. There are so many “gamified” language learning apps - but it would be nice to have one that is the right balance of a. actually being fun and engaging and b. actually drilling the words enough to learn them.
I always have a hard time sticking with things, so the hope is to make something that people actually want to use - whether this project gets there or not - well have to see…but this minute quest idea sounds promising. Thanks for the feedback!
Semi related but doesn’t anyone know any apps or sites or pleco/anki card packs like this that throws phrases or sentences at you rather than just words?
I’ve seen a few - don’t know which ones are any good - just a quick google and I found this one: https://ankiweb.net/shared/info/1876551906
If this project gets enough traction - I’ll hopefully add sentences eventually to it - but that will likely be a while from now if I am able to find some other contributors.
Sweet, thank you for your hard work!
