For me, success is happiness. A clean and beautiful environment with lots of nature, education, adequate and affordable housing, mixed use neighbourhoods, safety, equity, and privacy. Adequate and accessible (mental) healthcare, good rights for all (on queer, labour, women and disabled regards especially), bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure. And this being present for everyone.
Nobody pulling each other ‘down’ for money, but everyone cooperating to help each other. That is what I consider success. It’s not money, but general wellbeing, that should form the basis for measuring success.
When you can come to your own house and not panic over politics, violence, being fired at a moment’s notice. When you can walk safely by yourself, smell the rain on leaves, know that you’re gonna be fine no matter what - when one can just feel … themselves at peace. That is succes.
For that reason if I see a job go like “you’ll earn $100k” but it’s terrible and stressful, I’d prefer skipping that for a job that’s $60k but doesn’t have harassment, is in a good area and I can be myself.
Needing to earn $$$ to be considered succesful.
