Doug Enaa Greene gives an overview and critique of the political journey of Michael Harrington, founder of the Democratic Socialist of America, and his influence on reformist socialism to this day.
FRSO is not very serious. They’ve been a “pre-party formation” for 40 years and seem to focus on recruiting, but you recruit not through canvassing but through example i.e. having something to show people. On the principles they follow J Sykes way too much, guy is basically the thought leader for the organization all by himself. And not only that but he rejects that the US is settler-colonial still, but doesn’t even understand what settler-colonialism is - except this is now FRSO’s line. He has poor dialectical reasoning and ultimately defends settler-colonialism pretty blatantly despite believing he stands against it.
Okay one more thing about frso because I went digging into my archives to make sure I had this correct, but we used to host sykes’ book (a collection of blog articles he wrote) on prolewiki, someone deleted it, then an frso member asked us to reupload it since they used it in a book club. I was thinking weird that they don’t provide members with a pdf for their book clubs, and the articles are individually available on sykes’ own website. they do sell physical copies - and not boding well if they teach newcomers this as “theory”. there’s more problems on sykes’ writings but nothing that I could substantiate right now.
