According to Axios, this is why (I’m guessing it’s mostly about the oil because he’s a moron):

    • Long-running nuclear dispute. The U.S. and Iran have had off-and-on talks about striking a nuclear deal for months.
    • Protester killings
    • He already sent aircraft carriers with threats - Chekhov’s aircraft carrier
    • Pressure from Israel
    • The oil factor
    • A sense of regime weakness

Hmm I thought the main reasons would be that there is a great public support for a regime change right now especially among Iranians and that there is a potential new leader (the son of the Shah) who might provide stability afterwards.
