So you agree then, that a person’s disability and their capacity for racism are two separate factors. Unless there is a different point you are making.

Yes? that’s what I have been saying this whole time, him having tourettes doesn’t mean he can’t be racist, he can’t control that he says it, but he can control other things, has to apologise to those he offended.

I agree that an apology from him is necessary, considering the Black people that have been hurt by this. As far as I am aware (and I could be mistaken), John Davidson did indeed apologize for this incident, and he removed himself from the room when it happened.

Should he apologise every time his Tourettes makes him say something hurtful?

No, but in this case I think it’s good to apologize for the harm done due to the nature of it, even though it was unintentional.

TBH the BAFTA organizers and broadcasters in particular really handled this as poorly as they could have. A lot could have been avoided by making sure people were informed and prepared, censoring the broadcast, better accommodations for Davidson to try to avoid this sort of scenario, etc. I think they milked this for the controversy on purpose and to distract from the censorship of pro-Palestine activism, there’s no other explanation for the editing of the broadcast.

I think I agree. I just see a bunch of users going “he should apologize” and it’s sort of like, they just want a person to annihilate themselves constantly apologising for their neurological disorder.

You might like this video. I haven’t finished it yet, but so far it has some valuable perspectives. @Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net recommended it to me, it’s by Poddy Mouth, a black creator, and includes the perspectives of black people with tourette’s.
