The other day, it worked just fine and suddently, it stopped opening. Only the pre-softare-window appears (the one with an illustration and a bunch of loadings) and then it straight up diseappears (in task manager too). AE 25.6 works fine but I had a project in 26 that I wish to not lose. I tried restarting the computer (did not work), reinstalling AE 26, unpacking, repatching (did not work), deleting the “C:\Users[USER]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\After Effects\26.0” folder entierly, since I did not have any settings/customizations I wanted to keep (it recreated it instantly upon opening the app, still did not work).
Maybe the fix is as simple as “delete that specific folder/file” but please help. Any possible cause is welcome :)
There are no issues with After Effects being patched using GenP.
Since
v26.0previously worked and only recently stopped, whilev25.6still works, this does not indicate a GenP patching issue. If GenP were the cause, the problem would typically occur immediately after patching, not suddenly after the app had already been functioning correctly. This assumes that
v26.0was properly unpacked and patched using the latest GenP release and configuration, and that the patching process completed successfully without errors. As no patch logs or error details were provided to suggest otherwise, a patch failure can reasonably be ruled out.The only GenP-related cause that fits this behaviour would be if WinTrust was run on
v26.0, as versionsv25.4and later are not compatible with WinTrust. This is clearly documented in the GenP Guides and Troubleshoot Section and has been communicated previously. If you have run WinTrust on
v26.0(now or previously), you must untrust the app. That is the most common GenP-related cause of the splash screen appearing briefly and then closing. If WinTrust was not used on
v26.0, then this is very unlikely to be a GenP-related issue. While a splash screen that briefly appears and then closes can sometimes indicate an incomplete or incorrect patch, that would typically occur immediately after patching, not after the app had already been working normally.Given that
v26.0previously launched successfully and only recently stopped, whilev25.6continues to run without issue, this behaviour points much more strongly toward an app-level or system-level cause rather than a patching problem.Common causes include corrupted cache or preferences, plugin conflicts, incompatible extensions, GPU driver changes, Creative Cloud update conflicts, damaged Adobe background components, Windows update interactions, system permission issues, or Visual C++ runtime problems.
In some cases, Creative Cloud services may fail to initialise properly, or a recent update may have altered a dependency required specifically by
v26.0.The fact that
v25.6still runs correctly strongly indicates that GenP patching itself is functioning properly and that your system is capable of running After Effects. This suggests the issue is isolated to thev26.0environment rather than being patch-related.Unless WinTrust was run on
v26.0(which is not supported for versions≥v25.4), this should be treated as a standard After Effects troubleshooting issue rather than a GenP issue.In-app or system-related issues fall outside the scope of GenP support, as GenP only addresses patching behaviour and does not provide troubleshooting for Adobe app errors or system configuration problems.
For further assistance with in-app or system-related problems, refer to Adobe’s official support resources, the Adobe Community, or the After Effects Subreddit to see if others are experiencing similar behaviour.
As a general best practice, always maintain regular backups of important or active projects, particularly when working across major version changes or newly released builds. Saving copies to a secondary drive reduces the risk of data loss if a specific version becomes unstable, encounters compatibility issues, or stops launching unexpectedly.
