For others who didn’t know, it’s wild:

Although, not entirely surprising if you’ve read the always delightful Mary Roach’s book Stiff.

Man, think of all the work to get a dead guy, strip off all the flesh, bleach the bones, and then turn around and discolor the bones and put rubber flesh back on for a horror film. They could’ve just skipped the whole cleaning part and used the original corpse.

You just buy them from medical supply. The cleaning is done with beetles.

I know a museum that is all skeletons and some are human and they are featured in Dirty Jobs. They also have the beetles at work. One thing about the place that creep me out is just much they enjoyed the job. The owner also vows to put his own skeleton on display when he dies.

Here some pics from my vist:

What a great book! I just finished Gulp, equally as good. And if you can imagine it, more unsettling. At least for me.

Oh, having read it, I can fully believe it.

Honestly, Roach just doesn’t miss, all her books are gold. she’s one of those authors that I’ll read whatever she does as soon as I find it.

I’ve only read two, but the rest are on my list. I look forward to more!

As you already know, you are in for multiple treats!

There are few things as awesome as realizing you love an author who has a bunch of stuff which you have yet to read.

Totally! Reading in general but particularly authors like this have completely changed me in so many ways!

I’m guessing that the union didn’t know either, otherwise they’d have made them all members and given them credit.
