Spent too much time in college pursuing a major that wouldn’t help my life in the least at an undergraduate level, and spent the previous-and-subsequent years reading voraciously on the topic of history, which has always fascinated me.
Other than the patience and enthusiasm to pour over academic journals and monographs, I don’t have much that sets me apart! I can’t even read any language other than English - something which academic historians sometimes rub in my face when they quote, in whole untranslated paragraphs, four different languages (sometimes just quoting other historians, not even primary sources) because “You’re reading this hyper-specific paper, so shouldn’t you already speak Latin, Greek, French, and Italian? What are you, a fucking normie?”

Luckily, books are typically less egregious about that than articles, lmao.

Me, I’m a bumbling buffoon when it comes to Castellano, française and a bit of High Latin, but you know how the meaning sort of ‘comes together,’ the more you look at it…? (or is that a certain brain-region thing where I got especially zapped, like my cousin, who is 10x smarter than me at languages?)

Struth-- the whole, hilarious, awkward, ridiculous idea of “normalcy” upon our recency (14Kyrs or so) is one of the most hilarious misfired, delusional thinking problems in Sapient history, IMO.
In terms of Sapiens? Yeah, we’re just a huge bunch of weirdos, down-to-the-bone, forgot who we were, and normalised all our “progress.”
