In psychology, cognitive dissonance is a phenomenon where people unknowingly or subconsciously hold fundamentally conflicting cognitions (mental processes). Being confronted by situations that create this dissonance or highlight these inconsistencies can cause stress (discomfort) and motivates change in their thoughts or actions to reduce this dissonance. Persons who experience internal inconsistency tend to become psychologically uncomfortable and are motivated to reduce the cognitive dissonance in several ways, such as: rationalization (justifying the behavior), using a just-world fallacy, using selective perception (ignoring some info), or avoiding information (resulting in confirmation bias).
It will drag the conversation down, but I’m going to say most of humanity has it.
Unfortunately not. The description is wrong and missing a sentence or two.
It is not merely holding opposing views in your head at once. It is literally the discomfort itself that is cognitive dissonance, and most people sadly do not feel it. They happily believe utterly incompatible things. If it were akin to music, cognitive dissonance would be that ick feeling when someone hits a sour note, and most of humanity can sadly jam along to the dulcet tones of a car crash…
and most people sadly do not feel it.
the people engaged in doublethink, e.g. people calling themselves “pro-life,” while simultaneously supporting and celebrating the rounding up, detainment, starvation, torture, and murder of human beings just because they’re brown
Bingo. Among so many other examples of blatantly false propaganda from people who happily call themselves followers of Jesus.
It says “Stuart” wrote this…
Is it your website?
Every single one of these I’ve seen, completely misses the point of what they’re trying to summarize.
Just link Wikipedia articles. Stop trying to make your own summaries, anyone that reads these are getting wrong information but walking away thinking they’re correct
The information is from wikipedia yes, there is a link to the wikipedia article if you want to read more linked see “Source”. The whole idea is to present bite sized info that is not written by AI… and encourage further reading. If you feel the information is incorrect, then perhaps you need to edit the wikipedia article.

Cool…
But you are taking accurate information, and the summary you’re generating consistently has large errors and misunderstandings…
If it was Wikipedia’s fault, then Wikipedia would also be wrong.
What you’re doing is like copying math homework 5 minutes before class, writing down the wrong numbers, and when you get a bad grade, saying you copied off Bobby and the teacher should go yell at Bobby so you get good grades.
Except Bobby got 100%, because he actually did it…
You just copied it wrong.
And yes, I’m aware you say it’s not AI, it’s plastered all over the website.
So much so, that I’m pretty sure you’re using AI and just hyper defensive.
If not, that means you’re just not understanding anything you’re trying to summarize.
In any case, all you’re doing is spreading wrong info.
Ok, If you feel the information has large errors, then provide some constructive feedback and I will consider updating the bite size paragraph of information. What you are doing is actually both criticising wikipedia and insulting my ability to summarize. Both of these are not constructive to my work, time and effort that I am putting into this project as a benefit to people who may really want to learn something. If this is the kind of push back I’m getting for a non-profit science project, in a science community, that discourages me from wanting to post anything here at all. Is that your aim?
Me:
You did this badly, you should do it better
You:
Then do it for me and I might fix it!
Why would anyone do that when you’re acting like this?
What you are doing is actually both criticising wikipedia and insulting my ability to summarize.
Buddy…
You didn’t even understand Wikipedia, or my prior comments.
No matter how much time I spend here, you’re still not going to understand it.
. If this is the kind of push back I’m getting for a non-profit science project, in a science community, that discourages me from wanting to post anything here at all. Is that your aim?
I’ve said it repeatedly:
My goal is you to stop spreading bad summaries that make people think they understand things they don’t…
It would be great if you started posting accurate summaries so people could learn accurate facts. I do not want to teach you, you do not know how. So again, just post the Wikipedia, because it is accurate.
Not your personal blog that only has shitty summaries filled with errors and misunderstandings.
But yes, if you won’t do that, then posting nothing is better than posting false information.
Just…
Jesus Christ dude, how aren’t you understanding any of this?
Everything you type, is a misunderstanding.
Is this for a fifth grade science project or something?
I understand now, you don’t know how to be constructive, and discouragement is your aim.
You understand this as much as your chat it understands the flash cards you “make”.
