Families have expressed concern over living conditions and mental health on the USS Abraham Lincoln, whose deployment began in late November and was expected to end in May but has since been extended indefinitely. The ship reportedly went long periods without regular port visits for replenishment, maintenance and rest.
Annabelle Loma told Military Times on Tuesday that the ship’s ombudsman had informed her that her husband had tried to jump off the carrier. “He thinks he’ll get a dishonorable discharge, and just because he was burnt out,” she said.
Maria Rodriguez, the wife of another sailor, said her husband had intervened in a separate incident, preventing a shipmate from going overboard.

I spent two weeks with 12-hour days digging my way through a muddy swamp so I could reinvigorate the original river layout (it had been straightened out to help farmers) and I loved every second of it.

Tell me about it. I only left because i got moved into the design side and the principal i worked for was a fucking weirdo; then they were acquired by a much larger firm and heads rolled everywhere. Most of my construction colleagues are around though still though, and are still lovely people to have beers with when I’m back in town
Many such cases! I’m kind of glad I got out at the ground floor before committing more of my life to it, tbh. The only people I know who kept at it ended up burnt out middle management types wishing they could get out from behind their desk to go back out into the field
