How do I get people to see my community or know if people can find it? I was on Reddit for 2 days starting a community and got banned for NO REASON. I saw this was the closest thing to it so wanted to start here until Reddit (if they ever bother) checks my appeal.

    Adding to the niche topic part, and poking @oceanbloom25@lemmy.world to ensure the message is seen, the more one posts to a community, be it yours or others’, the higher is the chance of others finding it, though I’d advise against spam and overposting.

    If two people from different instances follow a community, the post gets delivered to them in their communities, and that makes the post available to anyone in their specific communities too. If they comment or (microblogging feature) boost, it further spreads, further increasing the chance of more people potentially interested in the topic to join in.

    And I suggest no spam or overposting because it becomes annoying fast, making people stay away from the place, and drains your post pool, making for a “drought” of posts which also withers the interest in the topic.

      Yeah I’m trying not to post a lot. I’ll prob start doing once a couple days or something. I’m used to yt, insta and so forth which is you spam to keep the algorithm working. This is a new level of patience lol.

        I have a small community too, I try to only post two things at a time to not annoy people browsing All then wait 6hrs if there’s any else to post that day, which isn’t very often with emulation anyways. Takes a long time to grow a community that’s not politics, memes, or comics here still.

        I think where people have trouble is when they spam every article or video about the topic into the post. If people see a flood of posts coming from somewhere, they might unsubscribe or block it.

        Share good quality content when you find it. I think it becomes spam when you are posting a bunch of posts at once, or if it’s a bot that’s posting junk constantly. A few good quality posts a day, spaced out by a few hours, wouldn’t be seen as spam.

        You don’t have to post that much, that’s just what I’d consider the upper limit

      Also iirc posts to Ani.Social communities get bridged to #Bluesky through Web Bridgy similar to how the same posts federate to #Mastodon, meaning title and a link to the OP.

      Yet to test in that regard, but if the bridge picks comments to those posts as a whole and parses potential hashtags as functional tags, and Mastodon does the same, you could maybe add a comment to your posts with relevant tags too (though again, maybe better to avoid spamming).
