I could go on about how this is a stupid untenable idea on so many levels but even engaging with it on that level is denigrating the intelligence of everyone involved. It’s just more shock marketing to hoover investment from venture capital idiots, it works because everyone picks up these stories and go “duuuuudeee, they’re making the horrors, whhooooaaa”
This is par for the course in robotics where chinese robots are windmill kicking each other’s heads off while western companies have to appeal with this horror-marketing for their shitty product that won’t go anywhere. Some recent examples:
It’s called “vice signaling”, the opposite of virtue signaling. Like you said, to attract investors, it needs to at least sound evil, even if it’s pointless. Human neurons aren’t even very different from any other neurons, but it sounds more evil.
