Folies Bergère. From Paris in the Belle Époque. The Fuller of the poster above, and several below was Loie Fuller (1862-1928), an American dancer credited today as a pioneer of modern dance and then-experimental lighting techniques using colored gels and stage lights to create interplay with long flowing skirts. She also used stage magic where large models of birds or animals would transform into Fuller dancing, before the eyes of the audience. She toured with Buffalo Bill before making her way to London and Paris. This is a 2023 recreation of Fuller’s Fire Dance, using Fuller’s choreography, and what I assume must be better lighting than Fuller had available in 1896. Absolutely worth a watch.
