All of a sudden? I’ve always known Russia to be a common source for torrent content, especially repacks.
Its not a new thing by any means. But recently they did sort of start to “encourage” piracy, as a way to lash out with their impotent rage against western sanctions and support for Ukraine.

It has always been going on, now its going on a bit more.
Same question but with Italian. The Hindi ones at least make sense, big poor country and all.
Takedowns are the bane of piracy. Russian domain owners don’t get as much legal pressure by the state to act on takedown notices, therefore Russian domains bring a little bit of resistance.
Sidenote, .su used to belong to the ussr but it was never really released and it’s assignment is in a geopolitical limbo, so that domain is even more shady. It’s an interesting story.
P.s. If I got any of this wrong please correct me.
Russia pirating everything is why the R5 DVD was a thing. Usually rushed out before any other region to try and stop them pirating a movie.
