Nazare, Portugal. Largest wave surfed so far was 86 feet high.
There’s plenty of good videos out there explaining the wave and how it forms. Very interesting stuff if you’re a fan of the ocean.
I read an article about the underwater canyon there, do you have a favorite video about it?
I think this is a good one (skimmed through it). Fav one explains the history as a fishing village, etc. as well. Think this is it…
The history of Teahupo’o is interesting too. Similar story of a fishing village, suddenly on the world stage. An incredible wave too because it comes from the deep rapidly and comes out of no where on a reef with “the channel” that boats can just sit in metres away because the depth remains between the two reefs.
Yea, that was good, I hope Guinness confirms that kid’s record, but I guess they don’t have reliable footage of it yet or it would have been in the doc.
I don’t surf but nazare might be a new destination of mine to see the biggest waves in the world.
I’ll check out teahupo’o too, thanks
I feel like there has been bigger…
I’m sure there have been bigger waves ever, by the language I think this is the largest officially recorded to have been surfed.
according to this video there’s a kid waiting for his 101 foot wave ride to be recorded by Guinness.
