I don’t want to spoil too much but imagine a really disturbing version of the ship from WALL-E. I genuinely nearly cried at the end.

Despite everyone on the ship dying, at the very end it does pass a planet that looks like it can host life. So maybe the message is that even if some of us are doomed there is always some hope in the universe.
I mean, sure, kinda the coldest of comforts though.
