Very interested in your thoughts
So far: What I love:
- Custom-ability. The firmware/software hardware even the buttons are all open source. Meaning I can print off better anything I want.
- Ive already looked at the software. I can see a number of things I would like to improve. So thats awesome.
- You can side load fonts all you want.
- Its held together by screws. Very easy to get into.
What I dont care for at the moment:
- The back and front cover look kinda meh. Im planning on making my own soon.
- The bottom buttons are ok at best.
- charging time. Its been 2 hours and its only pulling 2/3W from what im seeing. very slow charging. Which is probably fine for the battery sake…but its a usbC so meh.
I dont know about the battery time yet, nor what it looks like to take the thing apart just yet.
Im not a professional reviewer just a software dev that likes nifty things. So this scratches an itch. Everything is open and ill probably spend more time customizing the thing than reading. But you never know!
For anyone actually looking to purchase this thing as an ebook reader, I would say its a good first iteration. If you care about repair-ability, open source, and the customization of your devices get this puppy!
If you want something more commercial, not 250$ and something that just works ™ then get a kobo or old kindle. Or some of those 40$ ebook readers out there. The ones that magnetize to the back of your phone.
I love the look and idea of it. Still a little pricey for my blood. How long did it take for you to get it after you ordered it?
It was crowdfunded so like…a year? haha.
It should in theory take much less time now that the product is out. But I think only about 100 have gone out.
Its SUCH an expensive ebook reader honestly. Your right on that. It feels…nice though. Like its been a week of heavy reading. And the power has not gone below 90%.
You are def an early adopter for this one. I’m having a hard time even finding hands-on reviews of it.
What kinda os/software is it running?
Its a partial fork if I recall. Its just custom software esp32.

I was able to compile it myself yesterday but def not necessary. I’m going to try adding a couple of features. I know a bit about esp32s but not like a huge amount. code is easy-ish to follow along so far. I havetn gone super deep.
Interesting. I’m not currently in the market for a new ereader but I’ll keep my eye on this. The lack of a backlight would be a showstopper for me, so hopefully they can add one in future versions.
That’s really cool, I’ve never seen one like that!
