Commodity fetishism taken to a new level, you don’t even need the commodity itself anymore
You never did. Even when people actually bought all this crap, it’d usually sit somewhere and collect dust.
Worn once - AT MOST.
This is the true essence of fetishism.
Right, it’s the same thing only more complete and extreme. Creating a figment of the thing instead of the thing itself, until eventually the figment grew stronger and stronger and then the thing itself vanished into nothing.
I think it’s more of a Society of the Spectacle thing than commodity fetishism. The idea of being able to live a better life or be a better person by buying this shit that doesn’t actually help you, and it’s a natural extension of it not actually helping you while simultaneously being a lifeline to a fantasy of self-actualization that you tuck it away somewhere, because all that’s logically left of how it “makes things better” is the buying and the ownership and not any conventional use value.
Materialism: ‘the commodity fetish does not infer a sociosexual fetish’
Capitalism [lounging under the Sword of Damocles, making out with The Forward Passage of Time]: ‘just you fuckin’ wait, buttercup’
I really want to know what bond repair treatment they used on that horse hair, because that motherfucker is like diamond filament at this point.
…and I could kinda use some because strand breakage is the bane of my existence lately

Baudrillard intensifies
I need a Khatami emoji, or an Iranian Lego emoji. For this one - the latter.
Let them (fantasize about being able to) eat cake
This is just window shopping, but with a different kind of windows.
I pirate video games and movies for the dopamine rush instead and I actually get the games and movies afterwards.
Do I play the games? Of course not.
I guess it’s not just me. I get in a mood, pirate a bunch of games, maybe go through getting them set up on Lutris (I’m on Linux), and then realize I don’t wanna. I believe this is called depression.
Somebody make a site like this but it tells you the billionaire that owns the item and where they can be found.
For science!
friends of my parents used to do this in i guess the 70s-80s in communist hungary. whenever they didnt buy a thing, they wrote it down in a book they called the “book of refused joys” and then they used to laugh about how much money they’d saved, when you added all that up
If you hadn’t mentioned they were Hungarian, I’d still have known. Incredible stuff.
What’s funny about your title is South Korean streaming companies got their government to pass protectionist laws that jacked up data fees on foreign companies and it essentially killed Twitch. So you can’t even tune in on Twitch, you have to tune in on SOOP or some shit.
As we are seeing right now in Brazil, it’s extremely wise to discourage the usage of foreign platforms
The Great Firewall was one of the smartest things China has done. You can’t be fully sovereign if your country’s digital infrastructure relies on foreign platforms. Especially when bad actors, like the US, can use it against you to destabilize your country. More countries should break free from this kind of digital colonialism.
So basically like when my parent refused to give me any quarters so I’d just click the buttons on the machine and imagine I was playing Street Fighter 2.
Truly Hell Joseon
I know how to improve this - you also have to add your credit card info and pay 1% of the item, to make the process even more realistic.
you pay 1% and it enters you in a raffle to win it when 99 other people pretend buy it
i hate that this might work
Insane how people got brainwashed into purchasing total garbage with a brand name.

Yes but let’s keep talking about how China making a teensy alteration to how their train systems work has eroded Chinese society entirely, or maybe we can at-what-costism China creating a new OS for their phones.
But this? No, entirely the sign of a healthy society, just a little kooky.
