Which 90s RPG final boss felt like a brick wall to you? Did you quit, grind for hours, or find a trick? Tell me the game and your level when you finally won.
In Secret of Mana, you get dropped into a room with a boss that is… a brick wall. Its closing in on you and you have to beat it quickly.

To be fair, that was already a Square trope by that point. They loved their “Demon Wall” bosses in the 90s.
Broke: JRPG bosses are a metaphorical wall.
Woke: JRPG bosses are a literal wall.
Bespoke: Doom II is a JRPG.

FFVII Ruby and Emerald. You NEEDED Knights of the Round to even make a dent in them.
I have to admit, for the most part, I’ve only beaten Square or Nintendo RPGs, but I’ve always actually thought the final bosses were disappointingly easy, except for FF3 (Pixel Remaster version).
Is the article formatted as one giant paragraph for anyone else? I have JS disabled.
Pretty much all of the Pixel Remaster versions were easier than the originals sadly.
Not even a final boss, but the optional Diablos GF fight in Final Fantasy VIII was impossible for 14-15yo me…
If western RPGs can have you fighting the floor, it’s only fair.
Romancing SaGa minstrels song. Made it to the final boss. Eventually made a new save to try again.
Once you beat him once you can carry over some level of progress for successive games. In that same one on maybe my 6th playthrough I had the goal of beating a boss called the jewel beast. Did not accomplish it that run but did on the next playthrough. Beat the game 8 times and never ever could beat what’s called 10 fatestone Saruin.
