I’ve been singing every word to thing song since I was in elementary school. I would spend hours listening to it while reading the lyrics. I live the trumpet or trombone at the end that signals naive hope despite the entirety of the song and the lyrics at the end signifying defeat.
More folk punk than NOFX, but They can’t kill us all by Apes of the State is so good. Angry, sad, and hopeful. Like Twisted Sister, but with more mutual aid. Or Final countdown cabaret style. Like if the riders of the apocalypse had kazoos.
That’s a little too, mmmmm, light for my taste. I need something with an edge.
One of my favorite positive punk bands is The Suicide Machines.
Any specific tracks that’ll give me the same vibe as the horns at the end of The Decline? I’m never heard of this band.
Start with their “Destruction By Definition” album. It’s got horns, but admittedly not as epic as The Decline.
Yeah, I was just hoping to make a little playlist of bombastic and woefully hopeful tracks like that. I’m not really looking for brass as much as I’m looking for a plea wrapped in cynicism.
Bad Religion, Rancid/Operation Ivy, Dropkick Murphys, Flogging Molly, Minor Threat, Reagan Youth, The Vandals, Social Distortion to name a few. Dome more hopeful than others but they are all really fucking good.
Might try some Leftover Crack?
I was hoping for specific tracks. I’ve heard almost all of these, but I’m looking for that specific feeling at the end of The Decline of being dreadfully hopeful that something can turn around, hopefully in our lifetime.
