I want to say something about what my girl and I have been dealing with around here.
Me and my wife are stranded in this area. I used to Doordash for a living until my car brokedown and now we’re living in a weekly rate motel, without transportation and we’re doing everything we can to get ourselves back on our feet. We’re surviving a difficult situation and rebuilding our lives. I’ve reached out to every local church and charity and organization and nobody will help. I’ve reached out to local authorities but we don’t fit any demographics that they help/enable.
We have to walk everywhere because we don’t have any transportation and this area doesn’t have public transportation. People honk at us, yell things at us, rev their engines and make fun of us a lot of times when we are walking. And then there are the people who sexualize and harass my girl while she’s simply trying to go about her day. Yesterday, while we were walking to an ATM so I could get cash to pay for our weekly motel rate, a man drove up behind us and started talking about my girl’s ass and trying to talk to her. She completely ignored him. I told him she was mine and he drove away. I’ve had men come up to us while we were holding hands walking to the store asking if she was my girl. She’s originally from San Antonio and I remember within the first few days of her moving over here with me we went to walk on the beach and some boys driving by mocked her and said “Wow! You’re so pretty!”
People shouldn’t have to deal with this kind of stuff just because they’re walking down the street. And there’s a pretty glaring hypocrisy here that I think deserves to be acknowledged. There are plenty of people around here who will shame women for wearing short shorts or showing skin, often while presenting themselves as very Christian and morally upright. Yet those same women can walk down the street and be openly sexualized and harassed by them. But then they blame it on the women and say that they shouldn’t dress that way if they don’t want that attention.
Being stranded without transportation is already incredibly demoralizing. Having to walk places just to pay for a room, get food or handle basic necessities is hard enough without strangers harassing you. There is a culture of judgment, harassment and minding other people’s business that I’ve experienced repeatedly. We’re trying to get back on our feet. We’re trying to find stability. We’re trying to survive. There is this culture around here that shames people for walking and for not being affluent.
My girl is beautiful and I love her very much and she knows her worth and she doesn’t think very much of cowardly men who don’t get any thinking they can prey upon a couple just because they have a vehicle and we don’t rn. I honestly don’t understand what’s wrong with this area but as I said before it comes from a lack of strong fathers and father figures in this area and you really don’t see these dynamics anywhere else in the country. It’s like a redneck Gotham City and it’s so predictable.
We are Jews and we don’t play your games. I’m honestly curious to see if this post stays up because I know how this area doesn’t like being called out.
Stuff like this usually goes in /c/chat or /c/chapotraphouse btw.
OTOH everything is political, and it’s a culmination of many political decisions made by a lot of people that led to this. In a different world there could have been pedestrian-friendly towns, jobs guarantees, food delivered, etc.
I’m only saying something because I had a report lol, politics is usually reserved for current geopolitical stuff. Not gonna remove it, but just wanted to clarify where posts like this tend to go since they’re new

Hey, I’m just trying to be helpful. I’m not gonna act on it unless it’s actually serious.

I will be forcing you into a mod roll during the next drive now lol.
Thanks for the suggestion! I didn’t know where to post it. I’m new.
All good, if you want to move the post you can hit the cross-post button, select the chat comm, then remove this one
