My ex (again) dragged me through the first four seasons, it was aggrivating that 1 was filler, 2 had sorta plot movement, and 3 reset itself at the end…

Maybe it’s in better hands now?

The first 3 Volumes are rough.
I’d honestly consider them more one single Volume or Arc.
I think the show gets better in pretty much every way going forward, but it’s not without it’s faults which I could go on about.

I didn’t love Vol 4 either so I dropped it, Idk :) the unironic anti-catgirl racism is moderately hilarious though.

Also, dang, better after Monty Oum? Brutal…

I mean Monty’s main contribution was mostly the fight scenes alongside a rough outline of the world and story.
I am more talking characters, writing, art style, over-all animation. etc.

Like I would be sympathetic if it was somebodies unity project that they invested alot of work in and had like 5 views on their youtube but it’s on amazon prime with real anime.

Honestly, I don’t even like RWBY that much, I can be glad for its success and respect its fans, but it’s just not for me and I agree with many of the critiques (it had its moments, though, and I like the style!). Either way, though… I would not react to a bad amusement park ride by saying “damn, I could really go for being bedridden with quadriplegia right now”, so why exactly should one “envy the deafblind” just because A Show I Don’t Like is on My Streaming Platforms, right next to whatever a “real” anime is?

There was ableism in what I said. I will admit that. It’s an abuse of language that still brings relief and still that guilty smile when I see someone else do it.

The existance of RWBY and it’s fanzone sets off a misdirected, pointless anger that amongst other silly things is a pleassant distraction from getting emotional all the time at the real stuff. It feels important to explore because it’s where in ours heads that we waste so much time.

Tbh I hope it does improve. I have a soft spot for the series and follow it here and there to check up on how it’s doing like an old friend. I’m not completely in the camp that says Monty era was peak. The series has ranged from rough to somewhat okay to surprisingly good for most of its existence.

Maybe I just like the idea of rwby more than the execution of it. Sorry for rambling lol

Edit: but yeah Kerry Shawcross should go

I am not having a go at you. I am just interested in getting it in words what other people like about RWBY and other things like anime that I can’t see the artistic appeal of. What in the idea of RWBY do you like?

It feels like a love letter to early 2000’s 4kids anime. The cheesy dialogue, hammy voice acting, buttmetal music. The early volumes were my favorite because they didn’t take themselves too seriously and were mostly an excuse to show off the unique fight choreography.

My issues with it are the same I have with the Harry Potter series. The mood change to grimdark and the world being big but unexplored. the world being unexplored lends itself to good fan fiction and fan art though.
