William or Thomas?
When I notice someone being an asshole because another person was an asshole first, I just see two assholes. From the third person perspective, their motives don’t matter a ton.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is the technical hill you are willing to die on in your industry?
4·9 hours agoIt can’t write you anything that hasn’t been written a million times before, but it can give you a paragraph and tell you to find the verbs, and then mark the exercise to a shocking level of accuracy. It can explain what you did wrong and give accurate examples and details. Then you can say “I don’t get it…I still don’t get it” a hundred times and it will try and try to explain it to you, endlessly, and it will never get frustrated or impatient.

61·10 hours agoYour favorite AI enabled LLM does a very, very good job of simulating language tests based on previous tests and there’s no reason at all not to use it to study and prepare.
At the same time, just like religion, some zealot-on-zealot violence is to be expected and there isn’t much anyone can do about it.

5·1 day agoWe don’t have the kinds of protections that most developed countries have for their workers. We have constitutionally protected free speech but if you’re carrying a political sign on a sidewalk and you stop walking you can be arrested. The arrest can make you lose your job. There’s no unemployment or health care if you lose your job. People have families and kids. There’s no social safety net. People miss two paychecks and they can’t eat. You can lose your house.
The stakes here are much, much, much higher than they are for you.
If Taco Bell has sauces that are Hot, Fire, and Diablo then what are other actual hot sauces called?
Hot sauce has a long history of hyperbole with marketing. I get that a lot of folks have a preference for high spice (I am one) and the pinch of cayenne that goes into a fancy fruit pie or taco bell sauce packet is going to be barely detectable, but I cook a lot for other folks and if someone says they don’t like any spice then diablo will ruin their night.
Everybody watch out, we got a badass over here.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•The show I was watching went from "Free" to "Paid" *while I was watching it*English
1·2 days agoThe only thing you need to be careful of is falling out of touch with modern life because you’re still watching 90s films in the 2050s. Part of my enjoyment of the niche entertainment I consumed in the 90s came from seeking out new people to enjoy it with, searching for it on the proto-internet, and forming communities around the experience of watching it. I find that nowadays I can watch the film again but it just doesn’t bring the same kind of enjoyment that it did when I watched it 30 years ago. I hope I live long so I can see more new entertainment options come out and try those too, and my dvd collection gets lost and broken and water damaged from being left in the closet where it belongs.
And AI enabled LLMs were all trained on it lol
There’s a LOT of bot activity here.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What happens if the AI bubble kept inflating and popped only after 10 years(2036)?
72·3 days ago“Only” 10 years makes it sound shorter than it should be. 10 years is way, way longer than any bubble should last.
A lot of folks whose first language isn’t English use “only” in the way OP did. It’s not to signify a shorter amount of time than people think it ought to be. It means in this case that the AI bubble would not pop before 10 years is up.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why does everyone put celery in soup stock?
01·3 days agoThey do it bc that’s how they learned it in culinary school / that’s how the recipe goes. It adds a bitter flavor to balance onion and carrot. You don’t need it and you can replace it with something else.
