  • The frontend is the portion of a webserver you see. It’s the website after the server has done processing everything it needs to in the background.

Instances in this case means a webserver which is apart of the fediverse, more specifically one that uses the lemmy API in this case.

So tldr, a lemmy server could use tesseract in its code to have a prettier website displayed for users.

  • It absolutely is 1/4th of what remains. Rachel will be left with 9 and Tracey will have 7. They’re not going to say ‘what remains of the quarter tracy took’ because it’s nonsensical. Tracy took a quarter so there’s nothing that remains of the quarter tracy took. they’re not going to mean ‘there is only one quarter left and tracy takes It’ either, because that also is nonsense. The only meaning that makes any possible sense, then, is ‘tracy takes one quarter of what remains’, which is 12/4 = 3. Tracy takes 3, that’s the only answer that makes logical sense.

I think the important thing is just the repulsion to the idea of cannibalism. You wouldn’t think at a party about trying to drug someone so you could eat them, just the thought is horrifying. Literally the only situation it’d come to your mind as a possibility is one of the most desperate times.

That’s how terrible rape as a concept should be. Literally bordering on psyche-breaking. Doesn’t matter how similar the concepts are, it’s our reactions to the concepts that matters.

  • Seems to me to have always been a meme, even before the internet. I suspect it’s some amount of shit-talking going to an extreme, propaganda that has long just turned into an incomprehensible slush, or it’s adopted from other countries’ hate of france being treated as self-explanatory and just becoming a given.

Very rarely is the hate for france real, it’s pretty much just a joke anytime it’s been used while I’ve been in earshot.

The joke template is: Anyone: *says something disparaging about the french that is either very vague or about them being snobbish or quick to surrender*

Everyone else: *agrees without question or elaboration.*

I’m sure some portion of the US genuinely does view the French in a bad light, but I’ve yet to meet them.

  • How many people actually live in the Falklands? Looks like there’s mostly nothing on that island. Edit: Looked it up, it’s about 3,600. So an incredibly small population. Census shows over 60% of that population is labelled ‘immigrant’, so non-indigenous.

I know Falklanders want to remain in UK control majority-wise. I also somewhat get why Argentina wouldn’t want what is essentially a potential base of operations off their coast (though realistically they couldn’t really do anything about it even if they did have sovereignty over it).

EDIT: as mentioned in another person’s comment, Argentina also wants it for the fishing rights. The fishing rights area is fairly sizeable, but not, like, HUGE

At the same time, i can’t really make sense of why the hell have the british fought to keep ahold of the Falklands. Maybe just because the british just love collecting shit that means nothing to them but have major significance to other nations’ people? I don’t really get it.

Edit: someone mentioned that the UK wants to keep the falklands in order to maintain claim to Antartica. Weird but okay. Have not looked into that one.
