Maybe depends on which server implementation you use, I could be out of date. I heard about Synapse, the “flagship” implementation, being heavier though you of course have the option to use one of the lighter weight implementations. Personally, I don’t self host and I am mostly going on second-hand information that I’ve read from people who do self host.

Both are options that I’m personally not too fond of, but can nonetheless respect that these probably fit the threat model of some people. Signal is not self hostable, not all that private (still better than whatsapp atleast), and it’s servers are located in the States. Does have some FOSS clients like molly atleast.
Matrix is a bit more complicated in my opinion. While the protocol itself is fine, the history behind it is what makes me not want to use it personally. Namely, it being a project that emerged from Amdocs, an Israeli telecommunications company previously suspected of eavesdropping and spying on people. While open-source and self-hostable, it has a network effect going on where everyone registers on the main instance and self-hosting is apparently incredibly resource intensive. Plus, most instances require you to give an email address.
Personally, I’d recommend looking into GNU Jami and XMPP. XMPP may not have encryption as a built-in component of the protocol in the way that it is with Matrix, it nonetheless exists as an option and there’s plenty of no-email-required instances. XMPP is also less resource intensive to self host should you wish to do that.
Jami doesn’t work with servers but is instead distributed and peer-to-peer along with being libre software. Only knock against this one is that the desktop client is based on electron, which isn’t a problem for me personally but there are people who’re nonetheless opinionated about that.
Some youtuber who makes a lot of money running defence for democrat entryist candidates.
This is so funny, this is exactly what liberals say to defend Joe Biden. If someone is against Mamdani for being a zionist, then it’s safe to assume they’re not Cuomo supporters given that Cuomo is also a zionist.
Mamdani, AOC, and Sanders are all zionists. Besides, half these entryist reform candidates still take money from other zionist groups like J-street.
Pretty much. They’re all liberals who exist to funnel momentum back into the imperialist project.

Seriously, you people are no different from the Conservatives. It is always either homophobia or punching left.
That last part was a joke mostly. Video games are currently propaganda for bourgeois ideologies because that is simply the conditions they are produced. Even video game addiction is itself a product of life under capitalism and the supremacy of the profit motive. I’d say that neither of these would apply under socialism and that there are exceptions to the rule presently, mostly in the FOSS/Libre space.
Nonetheless, I’d maintain that this medium has a tendency to either attract or create people who are anti-social and reactionary. The racist portrayal of PoC, objectification of women, and strong lean toward imperialist propaganda might not be unique to games as an entertainment medium, but are certainly way more in your face and the defensive posture consumers take whenever these issues are raised is quite damning.
I’ve seen all kinds of ridiculous stuff.
According to libs, Israel is just like Harry Potter and America is Gandalf or something while Iran is Voldomort or something. Zelenskyy is Captain America and Trump is Palpatine. These giant media franchises are not only a stand in for having an actual personality or even a smidge individuality whatsoever, but also seemingly for political theory. I haven’t heard any libs outside of academic writings even so much as hint at any sort of coherent political philosophy or even liberal theories of political economy.
Media is always propaganda. Wether it is war movies glorifying imperialism, tv shows portraying an idealised portrait of petit bourgeois aspiration, or video game polemics against the geopolitical rivals of the American Empire, it exists to continually mold the consumer into an anti-social reactionary ideologue. There’s a reason libs can not speak about real world affairs without referencing some major pop-culture franchise.
The lesson? Video games will be no more under socialism. Only tetris shall remain in order to foment positivity toward the soviet union.

1·2 months agoDSA was founded by a Zionist and imperialist. It’s a glorified democratic party caucus with no potential beyond being a means to funnel momentum back into dead-end entryist candidates. Rinse and repeat for 50 years, and fall for it for the millionth time.

3·2 months agoGovernments aren’t gods that simply pop out of nowhere and stand on their own, they’re upheld by the people that live under them. Most Israelis and Westerners are not opposed in any form to the doing of their government, most of the West has been bribed into silence while most Israelis aren’t willing to give up the privileges and advantages that come with being a settler in a colonial settler state. Revolution will not come from these populations, it’ll come from those they oppress.
In the past, I commented that organising in the USA is hopeless and that the best thing to do for those who live there would be to move to the global south to counteract the brain drain. On the other hand, I don’t really know. I’m not from the west, and people in my own country are now violently xenophobic and our own movements have had challenges of their own in terms of building class conciousness and dual structures.
Personally, I think AES are the only places that won’t be falling into catastrophe.

4·2 months agoNot a gamer or a European, but it’s important to remember that none of these digital distribution platforms were ever your friends nor were they without problematic nature, especially so in the case of an entertainment medium that has attracted exceptionally reactionary and without decorum individuals.
Personally, I don’t see why anyone would patronise these platforms in the age of piracy, abandonware, and FLOSS games. Unless we’re talking about some super obscure game made by a not-famous person, shelling out money for a platform that will burn you one way or another in the future is just a bad move. Being nazi lovers on top of all these considerations should hopefully evoke some questions in the gaming crowd here.

4·2 months agoI’m aware that people who make a living from the internet have an incentive to clickbait and appeal to the lowest common denominator to maximise views and thus earning potential. Nonetheless, I maintain that the posse who made being super into analysing disney movies and meaningless internet drama into a career were never left to begin with and always did their anti-reactionary stuff from a liberal democratic framework of there being nothing wrong with the current system.

161·3 months agoMost of these online people were never communist to begin with. Don’t know much about Samsen, but last I checked he is a generic lib making videos about some reactionary gamer. For most of the breadtube/nebula posse, being the “left” was just marketing and sub-culture appeal akin to being a skater or hipster rather than questions of fundamental political economic importance such as critical support for flawed but nonetheless anti-hegemonic forces.
Secondly, it isn’t true that bad is a nihilist. He is against entryism as it is tactic that hasn’t once achieved anything of note. I really wish Americans would stop falling for the idea that if they just vote for the DSA entryist candidate, then socialism will happen. Mamdani, AOC, Sanders, and a number of other supposedly “left” Democrat electoral options were either all imperialists from the start or got coopted. You will not change the system from within, it’ll change you. This isn’t nihilism, it’s just facts.
Edit: not that I’m big on the guy personally. I think supporting the US-aligned Zelensky puppet regime, palling around with the lausan collective, being a transphobe, and doing anti-Maduro propaganda amid imperial aggression against Venezuela are all quite damning reasons for why he shouldn’t be considered a comrade. He is good at bullying lib entryist advocates and being an opportunist, that is all.

An ad hominem would be to dismiss an argument by attacking the person or circumstances. You know, like calling someone a Russian bot.
Secondly, I think you missed the point of the image. You claim to believe America is bad, but simultaneosly adopt it’s views on geopolitical rivals uncritically. Yes, including the view that anything that portrays the west in a negative light being “Russian propaganda”. Funnily enough, that’s the real ad hominem and is something incredibly common to hear coming out of liberals.
Edit: this was actually aimed at potustheplant, not Mayali. Clicked reply on the wrong comment.

I don’t think you’re alone in this, especially considering many turned to social media to cope with social isolation during the pandemic and ending up fostering an unhealthy relationship with social media. A Couple ideas:
If you can’t delete it or willpower your way into stopping, you could maybe consider getting one of those NFC blockers that block specific applications on your device. Never used them myself, but it’s probably what I’d do if I had a social media problem that I couldn’t control.
Secondly, there’s tons of better and low cost alternatives to social media. I’d recommend getting into Librivox if your interested in audio books, or maybe checking out standardebooks.org if you’d prefer to read. Physical books can also be a good way to kill free time. Really, any hobby or pastime not involving an endless feed of content is better than social media.
Lastly, consider sleeping without your phone nearby. That way, it won’t be as easy to scroll during the night and checking your phone won’t be the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning. You’ll probably need to get an alarm clock if you don’t have one though.
