A couple of years ago the Navy bought an ad campaign which included them streaming on twitch everyday. They always had a few thousand viewers which I thought was bullshit especially because there were only 10 or so people chatting. After watching the chat for about 30 minutes the same 10 chatters had the exact same things to say again. 30 minutes later it happened again.

I was going to document it, but by the time I decided to people like y’all came in and started spamming things like “What’s your favorite war crime???” and it became way to chaotic to prove it.

A friend of mine claims he “only plays good video games” and I asked him what that means and he told me “mostly I don’t play video games with zombies” and I think he’s onto something

I don’t want to speak for everyone but I’ll say this for myself.

After being told for over 20 years that I should still be morning these people and for the same amount of time our foreign policy hasn’t gotten any better, in fact it’s worse just makes me angry. They died and we’re worse as a country for it. It makes me deeply sad, but at some point the sadness just became a bitter sense of humor I reckon as a defense mechanism so I didn’t truly descend into madness.

I was a full on idiotic lib at one point, but the thing that irks me the most is the the libs that will confidently say things that are easily fact checked, or just say things based on vibes, or just make shit up.

I feel like the difference between many of us, or at least myself is when I do not know something I will try my best to figure it out even if that means challenging my existing disposition. This is what lead me here.

So in one respect yes I was like them I was an ignorant lib, but never ever ever would I just say some wild bullshit then plug my ears and start yelling.

You’re absolutely right it does and I have. I only bring it up because they’re so truly and utterly unfunny it offends me they share a space with us.

Yeah federation was certainly effective for giving the site the old subreddit feel, but I liked what Hexbear became. There was no other place like it and I say that as someone who isn’t particularly vulnerable. I can’t imagine what it’s like for people who are.

This might sound self serving, but as a cissie having a space where vulnerable people could talk openly (particularly trans people in Hexbears case) was useful in my own radicalization. Every day I was reading perspectives from people whose lives I would never experience, and it was honest and everyone was nice.

But I kinda feel like we threw that out the window and let the jackals in and now we have to re-litigate the whole thing again. I don’t wanna. Especially considering if I do want to argue with people who aren’t worth the lifetime stroke count from the keys on my keyboard I could just go to literally any other social media platform on the internet.

I’ve been on hexbear since the day it started (obviously not from this account) and I’m about to just give it up completely.

The bad memes alone were almost enough to make the feed unusable, but even when I’m using local only mode I have to read the worst takes imaginable from people off site.

I left Reddit when we got the boot from there and realized it was good for me, but this just feels like going back and now I can completely understand why it sucked.
