  • Logistically yes, again there’s only a certain amount of places a bike lane can be and still be effective. If we put it only in front of council members houses it wouldn’t be a good bike lane. Same if we bulldozed their houses and put up a parking lot, the people who lost parking would probably not be close enough to even park in those lots.

We as a society recognize that to complete certain projects some people may loose out on previous privileges. If we don’t we descend into nimbyism and nothing ever gets done.

  • It’s not their parking, it’s street parking on public land. If the public decides through a council that the safety of the citizens is more valuable then a couple peoples parking spaces they can choose to reallocate that land. These people still have private driveways and garages to park there car whereas bike lanes can only go in certain places.

The city planners who made the decision to make the neighborhood car dependent are long dead or retired. These council members are trying to make it less car dependent and you want to bulldoze there houses for trying?

If we want to move away from car dependence we’ll never get anywhere if we have to stop and consider every minor inconvenience that motorists may suffer and conive someway to put that cost on the people trying to change things.

  • Whitmer, klobuchar, newsom , Warnock, pritzker, hell i’ll even take buttigieg, literally anyone on the 2020 debate stage before the center collapsed in on Joe Biden after Obama told them too.

What campaign, he’s literally running on being better then trump and he still somehow failed at that, put anyone else on that debate stage and Trump would’ve been cooked. What is bidens personal selling point? His platform is the standard democrat party line, he’s an old white man from a solid blue state so he’s not bringing any constituencies from his identity, he’s even lost his wise elder statesman angle after that last debate. If you put any other democrat in they could not be trump just as well if not better then Biden.

  • more drug legalization?

Yes! The war on drugs and prohibition has barely done any good and has been used to justify a police state to lock up black and brown people, made drugs less safe due to lack of regulation and traffickers making increasingly concentrated drugs to hide easier (fentanyl), destabilizes our neighbors and funnels money to criminal organizations that murder people daily to ensure their market. All of this so maybe a few less people will do drugs, even though drug use has gone up since the war on drugs started and the fact that a drug being illegal usually isn’t , and shouldn’t be, the main reason people don’t do drugs.

  • Not French but heard he wants to let the right win to show how crazy they are in power and to discredit them while he still controls the presidency and blocks anything too crazy, ushering in an easy presidential bid for his successor. Apparently he doesn’t see the left the same and thinks them being in power would help them/ hurt him more.

He’s playing with fire like Hindenburg in the 30s, and we saw how that went.

  • Weathers only part of it, a large part is cost of living and especially housing costs. People have this idea that people become mentally unwell drug addicts then lose housing then move to California for the better weather/ more compassionate state. In reality a lot of it is the reverse, people live in California, lose they’re housing due to astronomical rents, then they become mentally unwell drug addicts due to the pain and trauma they suffer on the streets.

Last point still stands though, we do need a green new deal to give these people housing and employ them in meaningful jobs to help the green transition.

  • Bidens about to go down as one of the worst Democrats in the last century because of his hubris if he doesn’t. His decent domestic agenda will be overshadowed by him ushering in another trump presidency by ignoring all the signs for him to drop out. He didn’t early last year when polls repeatedly showed that people thought he was too old. He didn’t when unnamed democrat was leading him by 10 points. He didn’t when his Gaza policy alienated large chunks of his base. If he doesn’t in the next couple weeks when there will probably be polls coming out showing majority support for him stepping down then he’s gone full head in the sand.

It’s like RBG all over again, if these people could just get it through there heads to quit while there ahead they could preserve a decent legacy, instead of tarnishing it by leading the way to a regressive order that overturns everything they’ve done.

1 and 2 I think have pretty good consensus. The Bering land bridge opened about 10,000 years ago while the Polynesians didn’t reach Hawaii until 900 ad, so if they got to South America it was probably after that. There is some speculation that some separate group of people crossed over even before them since evidence shows that the south American coast became populated very quickly after the Bering bridge opened. Like they got to South America before they got to the interior of north America. That could be because the Rockies are large and without the fish that those people were probably eating, or it could be that some very early people, millennium before the Polynesians domesticated coconuts, made the crossing. That theory of very far in the realm of speculation but it’s a fun theory.

According to wikipedia this is the less likely and imo less interesting explanation. They did find coconuts that are genetically distinct from the ones the Spanish brought over from the Philippines, but those ones are more distantly related to the ones in polynesia so they probably didn’t float over. Instead they are more likely evidence of pre-columbian contact of Polynesians with south and central America, along with sweet potatoes originating in South America but being present in polynesia and SEA prior to columbus.

So this would boot Columbus off the podium in people who discovered America.

    1. Bering strait people / native American ancestors

    2. Polynesian people

    3. Vikings, Leif Erickson

    4. Columbus
