Casual Conversation@piefed.social•What is one souvenir you would give to a visitor of the country of residence or origin?
4·7 days agoThe pics of the Rhine area are beautiful. I’m sure the white wine must be exquisite.

4·7 days agoThe Google pics remind me of biltong.
I think I once had liquorice as a child. I would love to have it again.

5·7 days agoI had to Google the Reese candies, they look like Smarties! I’m sure the peanut butter in them makes a unique taste.
That beer sounds super rich. Most visitors to Malawi are intrigued by the local “Kuche Kuche”.
I would definitely love some roasted coffee. I haven’t had coffee in almost 4 years. I usually drink herbal teas from the farm.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Are you a local market or supermarket enthusiast?
6·7 days agoThat’s nice!
Most trading centers in Malawi have small stores which sell the products which are not made locally.
I do take a trip once a month to replenish farm supplies at the nearest city.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Are you a local market or supermarket enthusiast?
3·7 days agoYou have nailed almost everything 👏 . To the bottom right are a few sweet potatoes. The bottom middle has unripe tomatoes. These are at times sold to ripen later on. Locals do prefer buying most commodities ripe.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Countries/Cities without Walmart's/Giant super centers
2·7 days agoThat is so true. There is a surreal feel of knowing where your money is going. I love buying at the market here in Malawi than in these slightly more formal shops. The till attendants do greet but yeah they lack the enthusiasm of a vendor selling their merchandise.

2·7 days agoThat’s nice. I Googled cholula sauce. It looks very hot and potent 😆. I love me a hot sauce. Here in Malawi, we have a local sauce called Kambuzi.

Casual Conversation@piefed.social•How do you like your flour tortillas?
3·8 days agoIt’s a messy affair. My mom does have a habit of serving it that way and it has an oddly satisfying illusion of having eaten double as much as the traditional flour tortilla 😆

2·8 days agoMaking me reminisce on tacos and quesadillas. I haven’t had those in 9 years. Not a common dish this side. Will definitely make them at home sometime this month.
