Life extension is the concept of extending the human lifespan, either through incremental improvements in medicine or through radical increases in maximum lifespan beyond its generally-settled biological limit of around 125 years.[1] This field of study has been explored by numerous researchers and advocates, including “life extensionists”, “immortalists”, and “longevists” (those who aspire to achieve prolonged lifespans themselves). These researchers and advocates hypothesize that future advancements in tissue rejuvenation, stem cells, regenerative medicine, molecular repair, gene therapy, pharmaceuticals, and organ replacement (such through artificial organs or xenotransplantations) will eventually enable humans to have indefinite lifespans through complete rejuvenation to a state of optimal health and youth (agerasia[2]). The ethical implications of life extension are a subject of discourse among bioethicists.

I hope we don’t have radical life extension any time soon. At this point, the only people who would get it are billionaires. Can you think of any billionaires you’d want around any longer than absolutely necessary?
Fair enough, I was just mentioning something I’d had to consider in the past. Didn’t mean to sound random.

DARVO is a tactic used by a perpetrator to avoid accountability for their actions.[5] As the acronym suggests, DARVO commonly involves these steps:
- The perpetrator denies the harm or abuse ever took place.[6]
- When confronted with evidence, the perpetrator then attacks the person that they had harmed, or are still harming. The attacker may also attack the victim’s family or friends.[7]
- Finally, the perpetrator claims that they were or are actually the victim in the situation, thus reversing the positions of victim and offender .[2][4] It often involves not just playing the victim but also victim blaming.[3]
Lolz this is turning into a comedy routine.

3·20 hours agoSome people are “mandated reporters” meaning that if they learn of crimes /danger to a child or other vulnerable person, they are legally required to report it. The specifics vary by jurisdiction.
If you’re concerned, then during your first session ask about their policies for information recording, storage, and reporting. I always ask and they never seem surprised by the question.

1·20 hours agoWas gonna say this. Some jobs will help pay for classes (max 1 at a time) and some will even let you take the classes “on company time.” With Distance Education this is easier than ever. I took classes while working for a couple years, then was gonna take a semester off work and finish a Master’s Degree. (but ended up doing a PhD instead.)

In the US most jobs don’t do pensions. So the finances really do vary by country and by contract.
FYI depending on your country and your contract, it can make a big difference whether you are fired or whether you resign. i.e. in some cases if you are fired you get a severance pay and various benefits, whereas if you resign you get nothing.

2·21 hours agoif you’re looking at someone else’s feed, you can click “Copy Feed” and you can scroll down to see the list of communities it includes. you can then copy and add them to your own feed and pick-and-choose the ones you want. Dunno if that helps.

2·1 day agoFeeds are awesome. If you’re on the piefed web interface,
- under the “Explore” menu click on “My Feeds”
- click on the “New Feed” button
- you just need to give the feed a name and a list of communities, then click Save
That’s it. Besides the two above, I have a smaller one of essential communities that I want to make sure I don’t miss posts on (like EuroGraphicNovels!)
Pardon me, but is it possible to do this in Firefox?
I like the ddg search engine but dislike the “keyboard shortcuts” setting. From your advice, it looks like I can turn it off in a URL with https://duckduckgo.com/?kbj=1&kk=-1 which is a great start.
Ideally I’d like to be able to type my search query in the address bar, hit enter, and have it search with that URL (i.e. without keyboard settings) by default. You say “Replace the normal ddg “link” for your search bar with that one…” but I can’t figure out how to do that in Firefox. Any tips? Thanks.

16·2 days agoSolahütte (a.k.a. Solehütte, Soletal, SS-Hütte Soletal, or SS Hütte Porombka)[1] was a resort in Poland for the Nazi German guards, administrators, and auxiliary personnel of the Auschwitz/Birkenau/Buna facilities during the Holocaust in occupied Poland. Although postcards of the era sent by German staff sometimes bore the mysterious pre-printed return address “SS Hütte Soletal”, the rustic hamlet remained largely unknown to historians until 2007, when the Höcker Album of memorabilia owned by SS officer Karl-Friedrich Höcker including vintage Auschwitz photographs was donated to the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, which then released images from the album online for study.
